What is the Canada eTA? 

The Canada eTA is an electronic travel authorisation issued to eligible travellers flying to or transiting through Canada. It is valid for air travel only. 

Who Can Apply for Canada eTA? 

Applicants may be eligible to apply directly or may need supporting documents. The eligibility categories are listed below.

Nationalities Eligible to Apply without any Supporting Documents 

Applicants from these countries only need a valid passport to apply for a Canada eTA; no other requirements apply.

Nationalities that Require Additional Supporting Documents 

Applicants from these countries must have a valid passport and hold ONE of the supporting documents mentioned below.

Supporting Documents for eTA Eligibility

• A Canadian visitor visa issued within the past 10 years, or
• A valid US non-immigrant visa (valid on the date of application)

Canada eTA Permitted Travel Purposes

Eligible travellers may obtain a Canada eTA for short visits under the following categories:

• Tourist: Leisure, holidays, sightseeing, and recreational travel.
• Transit: Transiting through Canada on the way to a third country.
• Business: Attending a meeting, conference or trade show.
• Family Visit: Travelling to Canada to visit family members (Canadian citizens or permanent residents) for up to 6 months.

Canada eTA Processing Time and Fee 

• Standard Processing: The application is processed within the regular timeframe.
• Rush and Super-Rush Processing: The application is given priority processing for faster approval. 

Applicants choosing priority processing must pay an additional fee, which is added to the total Canada eTA cost.
